Learning Something New (Damon)

Spike was having a drink or two and had invited Damon out since they hadn't seen each other in a while. He ordered himself a beer to start while he waited for Damon to arrive so then they could drink some of the harder stuff.

Damon walked into the bar and spotted Spike. He walked over and took a seat beside the other vampire before ordering himself a glass of scotch.

"Well, look at who it is. Long time no see." He said.

He had just finished his beer and ordered himself a whiskey. "Seriously...it's been too long. How've you been?"

"Can't complain too much. How...uh...how are things with Buffy?" he asked, taking a sip of his whiskey.

"Uh, they're going well...the Angel mess seems to have died down. So, can't really complain." He replied.

"He popped up one night. Buffy got hurt when I wasn't paying attention and he came to her rescue. Bitched me out over it and after that, hadn't seen much of him."

"Wow...if Angel's here, something must be serious." he chuckled bitterly as he downed his whiskey and ordered another. "Even after he left Sunnydale, he would show up every now and then to help her out with something...and of course they always snuck in some time together." he explained.

Damon nursed his glass in his hand and listened to what Spike had been saying. He was going to comment until his mood shifted, hearing the last part. "Sneak in some time together?" He asked.

He nodded. "They always somehow sneak off to be alone for a little while...it's not as if they shag...they can't you see...the whole...Angel being a monster if they do thing."

Damon shook his head. "He sneaks off alone with her and you act like this is normal. You don't see the issue with it?"

"It's not like anything I say or do is gonna stop it. Buffy and I didn't have that kind of relationship...as much as I wanted it..." he said softly as he sipped some more of his whiskey. "Hey...does she still have the claddaugh ring he gave her?"

Damon fought back the snarl that was about to come out. He did not like what he was hearing. Here he was thinking that the Buffy/Angel relationship wasn't anything to be worried about, obviously he was wrong. "That what ring?" He asked after downing his glass of scotch.

"The claddagh ring...it's an Irish ring 'cause well, Angel's Irish. You've seen it around in jewelry stores probably. It's got the heart with the hands around it and crown on top. The crown means loyalty, hands mean friendship, and the heart means love...he gave it to her for her 17th birthday. Last I knew she hadn't gotten rid of it."

"Doesn't mean she still doesn't have it." he chuckled as he ordered another whiskey. "Ah...my grand-sire getting under your skin." he smirked. "Ironic how Angel has a soul but if he has a moment of true happiness he turns into one of the coollest, most evil beings in the world...and the one person that brings him that true happiness...it's Buffy."

Damon shoot Spike a look. "So, what you're telling me is that no matter what Spike will always be some sort of pain in the ass and that I'm screwed? Is that what you're telling me?"

He shook his head. "No." he said arching his eyebrow. "If Buffy really loves you, then you have nothing to worry about. Why are you worried? Or...is it because to her, you don't really care as much about her as she does about you?"

"No, my problem is, is that this guy who is supposed to be my friend keeps feeding me this Angel bullshit that is only telling me that no matter what, it'll always be him. I'm not you, Spike, unlike you, Buffy actually cares about me and it's a lot more than what you had with her.." He snapped.
